Biography |
Tricia Helfer was born in the rural community of Donalda,
Alberta, Canada, in 1974, and grew up on her family's grain
farm. At the age of 17, she was discovered by Kelly Streit,
a modeling agency scout, while standing in line at the local
movie theater. Tricia's modeling career exploded when she
entered and won Ford's Supermodel of the World Contest in
1992, leading to her signing with the Elite Modeling agency
and a successful career.
In addition to print work for major fashion publications
such as Vogue and Cosmopolitan, Tricia did runway gigs for
designers like Christian Dior, Emanuel Ungaro and Givenchy.
Her first important magazine cover appearance with for the
August 1993 U.S. edition of Elle.
While her modeling career was still red-hot, Helfer became a
correspondent for the fashion program Ooh La La in her
native Canada. It was during this reporting stint that she
discovered her love for the film camera. After residing in
New York City for several years, she moved to Los Angeles to
pursue acting full-time.
While Helfer appeared in cameo roles in fashion
documentaries such as 1995's Unzipped and 1996's Catwalk,
she didn't win her first real acting role until 2000,
playing Inga in the comedy short Eventual Wife, which aired
on HBO/Cinemax.
She then landed a meatier role on the two-hour premiere of
the Showtime series Jeremiah. The series was promptly
canceled, but the budding actress managed to move on to a
guest appearance on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in May
2002, portraying a model who attempted to slice off her own
face. That same year, she wed entertainment lawyer Jonathen
Marshall.
In addition to her television appearances, Helfer made it
onto the big screen in 2003, playing a female lead in the
indie feature White Rush. She lent her beauty and poise
expertise to the 2003 Miss Teen USA and 2004 Miss USA
pageants as a judge.
In December 2003, Tricia appeared as the cyborg Number 6 on
the Sci Fi channel's remake of the '70s TV series Battlestar
Galactica, and also appeared in a sexy photo spread in Maxim
magazine.
In March 2004, Helfer costarred as original Angel Farrah
Fawcett in the NBC TV movie Behind the Camera: The
Unauthorized Story of 'Charlie's Angels'. She made a
memorable guest appearance on CBS' The Late, Late Show with
Craig Kilborn just days before the telefilm aired.
The Battlestar Galactica miniseries was one of the Sci Fi
network's best rated shows ever, and it was subsequently
picked up for additional episodes. Helfer spent the spring
of 2004 in Vancouver filming the series. She was selected as
the cover girl for Maxim's 2005 wall calendar. |
