Biography |
Susan Ward was born April 15, 1976, in Monroe, Louisiana.
Her father was a policeman and her mother worked double duty
as a nurse and professor at a nearby university. Though her
dad did police work to pay the bills, his real passion was
raising exotic animals. Growing up with a mother who loves
to cure the sick and a father who loves animals, it wasn't a
surprise that young Susan harbored dreams of becoming a
veterinarian.
Walking through a New Orleans mall at age thirteen, Susan
was discovered by a modeling scout who offered her the
chance to move to New York and work full-time in the fashion
industry. The surprisingly levelheaded Susan didn't think
this was her big chance to be a star, but rather her big
chance to make enough money to pay for veterinary school.
After spending a few years in New York and getting a taste
of show business and modeling as a Ford Model, her dream of
helping animals was replaced with dreams of stardom. Though
it seems pretty cliché for a model to try and add the "slash
actress" to her title, Susan actually showed an aptitude for
it. After landing a small part on All My Children in the
role of teenage bad girl Camille, the producers were so
taken by her that she was invited to return as a recurring
character for the 1994 and 1995 seasons.
Soon after her daytime television start, Ward made the jump
to primetime in 1996 with the role of Bree on Aaron
Spelling's teen drama, Malibu Shores, which starred Keri
Russell and Charisma Carpenter. Unfortunately, the show was
a failure (one of few for Spelling) and was canceled after
one season. Finding herself out of work, Ward soon returned
to the world of soap operas with the role of Meg Cummings on
the drama, Sunset Beach.
After a successful two-year run on the show (from 1997 to
1999), she was given the chance to make her big-budget
feature film debut in 2000 with the thriller, The In Crowd.
The movie wasn't a hit, but the publicity helped make Susan
a legitimate star. The film was a life-altering experience
for Ward, as she met her producer fiancé David Robinson on
the set.
Her role in The In Crowd combined with a number of sexy
international magazine photo shoots helped establish her as
a true sex symbol. After that, it was pretty easy for her to
find work, as she landed two roles (both as "the object of
desire") in a pair of 2001 comedies: Going Greek and Shallow
Hal (as Hal's neighbor).
Susan will next be seen in the comedy Would I Lie To You?, a
modern retelling of the Oscar Wilde play, The Importance of
Being Earnest. The film will serve as Susan's second chance
to play a leading role, and might be the part that elevates
her to star status. But even if Susan never finds that
breakout role, there are still some sick animals in
Louisiana that need attention. |
