Biography |
Stacey Dash (born January 20, 1966 in The Bronx, New York)
is an American film and television actress of African
American, Native American and English descent.
Dash started her career as a child actor on the television
series Sesame Street. She later appeared in shows such as
the Cosby Show, where she acted beside friend Lisa Bonet,
and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Dash's first major film
role was in the Richard Pryor comedy Moving in 1988. An
important, if obscure, film for Dash is entitled "Black
Water" starring Julian Sands and Johnny Cash. She also had
sizeable roles in Mo' Money and Renaissance Man during this
time. In 1995 Dash starred as an extremely sexy femme fatale
in another obscure movie, Illegal in Blue. Dash received her
big break with the film Clueless with Alicia Silverstone.
Dash played the teenager Dionne Marie Davenport even though
she was 29 at the time. Dash looked much younger than her
age and carried off the role quite well.
The film eventually spawned a television spinoff in 1996
titled Clueless. The series, which lacked Silverstone,
eventually was canceled in 1999. Dash then went on to play
Vanessa Weir in the television series The Strip. It was not
a success, however, and was cancelled after a few episodes.
After the TV series Clueless, Dash's career went dormant
while she focused her energies on raising her children. Her
credits include View from the Top and many lesser known
movies, including Gang Of Roses, with Monica Calhoun, Lisa
Raye, and Lil' Kim, and Getting Played with Vivica A. Fox,
Bill Bellamy, and Carmen Electra. She also has appeared in
small guest roles on TV shows such as Eve and CSI: Crime
Scene Investigation.
In 2004, Dash was featured in a music video by Kanye West,
label mate of her cousin Damon Dash, for the single "All
Falls Down." At the age of 40, Dash posed in the August 2006
issue of Playboy. She is also featured in the upcoming
Michelle Pfeiffer film I Could Never Be Your Woman.
In 2006, Stacey was featured in singer Marques Houston's
video, "Favorite Girl". In 2007 Stacy was interviewed by
Meeko Israel on the world famous radio and webcast "The
Meeko Show FormFree Raido" WOBC 91.5 FM on the web at
WOBC.ORG.
Dash is the cousin of Damon Dash, the former CEO and
co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records. Stacey was a close friend
of Damon's late fiancée Aaliyah. She's a sister of both
Darien Dash (Brother) and Tia Gordon (Younger Half Sister).
In July 1999 Stacey married Brian Lowell (they met on the
set of Clueless where he was an electrician) (InStyle
magazine May 2000). Her cousin Damien Dash is the CEO of DME
Interactive Holdings, the first publicly traded
African-American owned internet company.
Stacey Dash has two children — a son Austin (born in 1991)
with R&B singer Christopher Williams, and a daughter (born
in 1988), whose paternity has never been publicly discussed
by the star. |
