Biography |
Sienna Guillory was born on May 31, 1975, in Fulham, London.
The daughter of famed guitarist Isaac Guillory (he’s worked
with, among others, Joan Baez and Mick Jagger), Sienna grew
up in an environment where she was encouraged to express
herself artistically. Having tried her hand at a variety of
pursuits, Sienna made the decision to pursue a career as an
actress while still in her teen years.
In 1993, at the tender age of 17, Sienna made her debut on a
UK miniseries called Riders. Though it was a small role,
Sienna used it as a stepping stone to bigger and better
things -- starting with her appearance in another
miniseries, 1995’s The Buccaneers (which also starred
up-and-coming actresses Carla Gugino and Mira Sorvino).
Sienna’s fledgling acting career was temporarily put on hold
in 1995, after she found herself signed to a modeling
contract with the prestigious Select Models agency. It
wasn’t long before Sienna was appearing in promotional
campaigns for labels such as Dolce & Gabbana and Armani, and
she even became the face of Hugo Boss’ perfume for three
years.
But acting is where Sienna’s passion lay, and to that end,
she signed herself up for classes at the New World School of
the Dramatic Arts and the Conservatoire de Paris. She
returned to her profession of choice in 1999, and went on to
appear in a whopping 10 films between that year and 2001 --
including Kiss Kiss (Bang Bang) alongside Paul Bettany and
the thriller Sorted opposite Kelly Brook, both in 2000.
Sienna even found time to get married and divorced during
that busy time, to a young actor named Nick Moran (their
union, forged in 1997, ended three years later).
Though Sienna rarely stopped working, she remained known
more for her short-lived modeling career than for her acting
-- though this began to change in 2002, when Sienna landed a
pivotal role opposite Guy Pearce in the much-ballyhooed
remake of H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine. While the movie
wasn’t quite the enormous hit everyone had been hoping for,
it opened a whole new set of doors for Sienna within the
notoriously cloistered Hollywood community.
A year later, Sienna received the big break she’d been
waiting for after landing a central role in the USA
Network’s big budget Helen of Troy miniseries (Sienna was
cast as the titular character). Sienna was almost
unanimously praised for her work as the ancient figure, and
the actress soon found herself appearing in such mainstream
films as 2003’s Love Actually and 2004’s Resident Evil:
Apocalypse.
Sienna Guillory’s star is certainly on the rise, as
evidenced by her long list of high-profile films. She was
cast in two films in 2006: the fantasy adaptation Eragon
opposite John Malkovich and Jeremy Irons, and a horror flick
starring Jesse Bradford called Victims. Sienna also reprises
her role as zombie butt-kicker Jill Valentine in the third
installment of the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil:
Extinction (2007).
Following her recent marriage to fellow actor Enzo Cilenti,
Sienna seems to be in a good place both professionally and
personally. It’s clear that Sienna has established herself
as one of the most promising young actresses of her
generation, and it seems likely that we’ll be seeing a lot
more of her in the years to come. |
