Biography |
Sara Paxton was born on April 25, 1988 in Los Angeles,
California. A natural performer, she began appearing in
television and print ads by the time she was 6.
Sara’s first of many big breaks came in 1997 when she
appeared in Liar Liar, starring Jim Carrey. Although her
role was relatively small, Sara was thrilled to work
alongside one of Hollywood’s most successful actors. “He was
so cool,” she recalls. “He was a really nice guy. I was only
8 and he would not remember me at all but he was so funny on
set and he was just really nice.”
Jim Carrey was just the first of many A-list celebrities
with whom Sarah would get to share the screen. In 1998
alone, she appeared in the Kurt Russell action flick Soldier
and alongside Jude Law in the romantic comedy Music From
Another Room.
The following year was just as successful for Sara: She
appeared in the family film Durango Kids and guest starred
in multiple episodes of the TV shows Working, Passions and
Action. Over the next two years, Sara made many more
appearances on hit programs like CSI: Crime Scene
Investigation and Lizzie McGuire.
Sara’s hard work as a supporting actress paid off in 2002
when she landed a starring role on the televison series
Greetings from Tucson. The part hit particularly close to
home for a number of reasons. “Greetings from Tucson was
about a half-Irish, half-Mexican family,” she explains. “I
am half-Mexican actually, in real life. My mother is from
Mexico and I speak a little bit of Spanish. I used to speak
a whole lot but you know, you kind of forget over the
years.”
Although Sara may have forgotten some of her Spanish
vocabulary, directors weren’t so quick to forget about her.
The beautiful blonde followed up her success in Greetings
from Tucson with recurring voice work in SpongeBob
SquarePants and a role on CSI: Miami in 2003.
By 2004, Sara was a veteran of the industry and enjoyed
appearances in top-rated shows like Will & Grace, Malcolm in
the Middle and Summerland. She also landed a starring role
in Sleepover (2004), a teen comedy about four best friends
desperate to improve their social status.
Sara’s outstanding performance in Sleepover helped her land
the role of Darcy Fields on the Discovery Channel’s Darcy’s
Wild Life. The popular light-hearted comedy tells the story
of a Malibu teen who was uprooted from her familiar beach
existence and relocated to a backwards, rural community. In
addition to starring on the show, Sara also revealed her
remarkable versatility by providing Darcy’s Wild Life with
many of its musical tracks. This led to the creation of
Sara’s first album, The Ups and Downs. “It's pop-rock music
and I helped write some of the songs -- and wrote a couple
on my own,” she explains.
Sara also made waves in 2006 when she played a love-struck
mermaid in Aquamarine. For Sara, the role was actually
something of a dream come true. “Being a mermaid has been
like my dream since I was a little kid,” she admits. “I used
to jump in the pool and think of mermaid names for myself
and pretend I was a mermaid… It was really amazing to get to
be one. I watched The Little Mermaid like every day.”
For 2006, in addition to starring in Darcy’s Wild Life, Sara
has also enrolled at USC to obtain a degree in film studies.
Luckily she won’t be going in cold, thanks to the help of
Aquamarine director Elizabeth Allen. “(Elizabeth) knew that
I wanted to learn about directing and so she would take me
around while she was making her decisions and everything,”
Sara says. “I really didn’t realize what the intricate
process is. Everything’s there for a reason in this film,
like the colors, the props and I just didn’t realize it.
There are so many different intricacies and I learned a lot
about that.” |
