Biography |
Born on Halloween, 1980, in Tokyo, Japan, Samaire
(pronounced Sa-mee-ra) Rhys Armstrong proclaimed at the age
of 3 that she wanted to be an actress -- her mother still
has the videotape of that moment. Samaire spent her
childhood in Japan and Hawaii before settling in Arizona.
At Sedona Red Rock High School, she was active on the
volleyball team, but really concentrated on drama as she
starred in several of her high school's productions. After
graduation, she enrolled at the University of Arizona but
stayed only one year, finally deciding to seriously pursue a
career in acting.
Like so many actors before her, Armstrong left her life in
Arizona behind for the promise of Los Angeles. Talented as
she is, it did not take long for the young beauty to garner
small roles on TV. She started in 2000 with Party of Five,
Freaks and Geeks and That's Life, gaining enough experience
to justify her life-changing move to L.A..
Only one year into her professional career, Armstrong gave
her breakthrough performance as hottie Kara in the
full-length comedy Not Another Teen Movie. Bolstered by
one-time appearances on The X-Files, Judging Amy and ER, she
was now attracting the attention of many powerful people in
the business.
After doing the TV movie Would I Lie to You? in 2002,
Armstrong got the attention of most of adolescent America
after winning the role of Anna Stern on The O.C..
In all, she would appear in 13 episodes of the primetime
soap opera, carrying her into 2004 with much momentum.
Although her character was booted from The O.C.'s storyline,
Armstrong didn't fret, as she quickly got work on another
hot TV show, HBO's Entourage.
Playing attractive Emily, Armstrong won over a whole new
audience on this cable success, earning the right to star in
a handful of movie roles. Having done the bomb DarkWolf in
2003, Armstrong revisited the horror genre in the films Rise
and Staying Alive in '05 and '06. She also signed up for
Just My Luck, a romantic comedy co-starring Lindsay Lohan.
Though Armstrong keeps a busy filming schedule, she has had
time to develop and market her own fashion label, called
NARU. The line has received a lot of publicity, with
features in Vogue, YM, Elle, and InStyle, among others.
Samaire has also been in magazines for another reason,
namely her hotness. Catch her in Stuff magazine, as well as
Maxim, where she placed 55th in the mag's 2005 Hot 100 list. |
