Biography |
She’s 16 going on 17 and she’s determined to be a star.
Pauleen Luna isn’t going to have anything or anyone stand in
the way of her ambition. Since she was a little girl, she
trained her eyes on show business and stardom.
She doesn’t mind the intrigues, because she knows they are
part and parcel of the business.
“It has been my childhood dream to be in show business. I
love acting. I like the idea of pretending to be someone
else. Whenever I’d see performers on television, I’d always
tell myself that I could do the same thing and probably even
do better,” she reveals.
But, Pauleen wasn’t successful in her first bid. As a child
she auditioned for the “Little Miss Philippines” contest on
Eat Bulaga. She failed to make it even to the first
elimination round.
Pauleen recalls, “First day pa lang po ay talo agad ako. I
guess they did not like the idea of allowing someone who had
two missing teeth to win the contest. But, I was very
determined to join other contests, and a few years later, I
became a talent of Star Circle.”
Two years with ABS-CBN wasn’t exactly a bed of roses. While
she did her part of the bargain, she felt the network just
dumped her, especially when Diether Ocampo stepped into the
picture. Yes, the husband of Kristine Hermosa allegedly
pursued Pauleen when she was only 14.
Suddenly Pauleen was transformed into a
not-so-nice-young-woman that got in the way of the
blossoming romance between the two hottest properties of
ABS-CBN. She was also painted as someone who had no sense of
gratitude, not a bit.
When her contract expired she didn’t hear anything from
ABS-CBN, her family decided to look for greener pastures
outside of the network.
Diether is just one of the factors why she left ABS- CBN.
“My main reason is I wanted to grow as a performer. I want
to experience how it feels working with other people,” she
says.
Although she has not signed a contract with GMA-7, Pauleen
felt a sense of belonging on the day she reported for the
taping of the soap series “Agos” which opened the third
season of Now and Forever.
“I play a dual role in the soap. One is that of a young
woman named Clarissa and the other one is the tomboyish girl
named Cristina. The fact that I am doing two different
characters made me fall in love right away with the
project.”
Pauleen is now working with actors like Christopher de Leon
and Lani Mercado, ex-ABS-CBN Star Circle member Dennis
Trillo, Sunshine Dizon, Polo Ravales, JC de Vera and Tanya
Garcia. The plot centers on two families torn apart by fate
and yearns to be united once more.
The only contract Pauleen signed up is with Mother Lily of
Regal Entertainment for a 12- picture deal.
Pauleen is a homebody and her social life is her mobile
phone where boys get to txt her and express their admiration
for the Bulakena girl.
She doesn’t want to reveal who are her male texters are
because if I’d mention a name, he might deny it. “Boys are
like that. Seriously, I don’t want to think about boys now.
They are simply a distraction to my ambition of becoming a
big star someday. It is nice to hear boys pay you a
compliment but I tell them right away that my heart belongs
to showbiz.”
A Scorpion in the astrological cycle—she was born on Nov.
l0— Pauleen shows strength and great determination. She
rarely cries. “It is my mom who always cries when things
don’t turn out right. I guess I am more of a fighter. I am
very determined very much like our new Miss International,
Precious Lara Quigaman, who never gave up until she won the
title. She is my role model.”
With a regular stint on Eat Bulaga and a twin role in
“Agos,” it won’t be long till she gets a bigger break that
could make her dream come true. |
