Biography |
Naomie Harris was born on September 6, 1976, in London,
England. Raised by a single mother, Naomie knew from a very
early age that she wanted to eventually pursue a career as
an actress. When she was a young girl, Naomie enrolled in an
after-school program at the Anna Scher Theatre School --
where she would eventually go on to join the institute’s
Young Professionals Group. Spurred on by Anna Scher, Naomie
took the plunge and began auditioning for plays, television
shows, commercials, and movies.
In 1987, at the age of 11, Naomie made her professional
debut on a British television show called Simon and the
Witch. Three years later, Naomie scored a starring role on
an adventure series entitled Runaway Bay -- though the show
only managed to stick around for 26 episodes. She jumped
directly from that series to another television gig, The
Tomorrow People, in 1994, but once again found herself out
of a job when the show ended a year later.
Though she had no intention of abandoning her burgeoning
acting career, Naomie felt it was important to continue her
education and consequently began studying Social and
Political Sciences at Cambridge University. Upon graduating
in 1998, Naomie received formal training as an actress at
the prestigious Bristol Old Vic Theatre School -- where she
remained until 2000.
Following her stint at the Old Vic, Naomie appeared in
several obscure British films and worked for free in
low-rent theatrical productions. In 2002, Naomie
successfully landed a role in director Danny Boyle’s 28 Days
Later -- a zombie film that would eventually go on to become
one of the most successful sleeper hits of the year. The
role brought Naomie the kind of fame she had been dreaming
of her entire life, and it wasn’t long before the actress
was appearing in such high-profile projects as 2004’s After
the Sunset (opposite Pierce Brosnan and Woody Harrelson) and
2005’s critically-acclaimed Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull
Story.
Naomie has two highly anticipated films scheduled for
release in 2006, director Michael Mann’s big-screen Miami
Vice adaptation and the long-awaited sequel to Pirates of
the Caribbean. Additionally, look for Naomie to pop up in
the third and final installment of the Pirates of the
Caribbean series in 2007. |
