Biography |
Martina Klein Korin was born on December 7th, 1976, in
Buenos Aires, Argentina. The daughter of architects, Martina
also has a brother, Tommy. In 1988, the family moved to
Barcelona, Spain. But Martina, having grown up in Buenos
Aires, has kept a special place in her heart for the city
and her native Argentina. Indeed, the rest of her family
still lives there, and Martina has stayed in touch with both
family and friends.
In 1991, at age 15, Martina first began working as a model,
and soon found herself increasingly swept up in the fashion
world. While she was in high school, she went to all her
castings accompanied by her mother Adriana, and modeling was
only a part-time job. But once Martina graduated in 1994,
she attended even more castings than before.
After high school, Martina attended university, studying
history. But she found academia not to her liking, and
dropped out without completing a degree. Thereafter, Martina
devoted herself to her modeling career. Soon she was doing
ads for Renault, Bollicao, Kodak, Coca Cola, Mercedes Benz,
Lee Cooper, Kas, Trident, Levi's, Yves Rocher, El Corte
Ingles, Wella, Don Algodon, and Mango. More recent campaigns
included those for Guess?, l'Oreal, Risk, Cebado, Caroche,
Triumph, Zoco, Kleymac, Aninoto, Llongueras, Pronovias,
Mango, Margon, and Anti-Flirt.
At the same time, Martina made her presence felt on the
runways of New York, Paris, London, and Milan. Since she was
based in Barcelona, Martina made a point to appear in
Spanish fashion shows, such as the l'Oreal, Cibeles and Salo
Gaudi, where she helped showcase many hot Spanish designers.
Throughout the '90s, she traveled the world as a top
international model.
Yet Martina wanted to try new things. In 1999, she took a
sabbatical, studying writing (which remains a hobby),
contemporary dance, art, and drama. In addition, Martina
took a crack at television work. In 2000, Martina began work
as a contributor in the Spanish television program Los 1000
i una for her local Catalan channel. She has also been
interviewed on other Spanish programs, such as Lo + plus, La
cosa nostra and Maldita la hora.
Martina certainly didn't give up modeling, and her
explorations of other media didn't hinder her career. In
2000 she was chosen as Model of the Year at Madrid's Cibeles
Fashion Show, and the following year Martina was chosen as
Woman of the Year by GQ magazine. Hola magazine readers
declared Martina the "Most attractive woman" that February.
Martina has hardly slowed down since her travels have taken
her from the Mediterranean to New Zealand to the Caribbean
and back. But Martina's hectic schedule has yet to wear her
down. While working in Greece last fall, Martina couldn't
help thinking about the fashion shows she was missing back
in Spain. "It's funny how," Martina observed, "while [they
were] on, I would give anything to get a break, a siesta, a
few minutes of silence." With such an irrepressible spirit,
we undoubtedly haven't heard the last of this 26-year-old
beauty. |

One thing to note about those numbers is that while Classmates had one of the lowest positive growth rates at 10%, they spend loads on advertising while MySpace, Youtube, and Facebook haven't spent a penny.
If I recall correctly, a couple years ago Classmates.com was one of the 10 largest spenders on online advertising.
There are plenty of new social networking sites poping up but what get's me why can't myspace there instant messenger working. $580 mill and can't afford to fix instant messenger BAD myspace.
