Biography |
Marija Vujovic was born May 19, 1984, in Podgorica,
Montenegro. The niece of Montenegro’s president, Filip
Vujanovic, she showed an early affinity for the piano, which
she studied for seven years at a local conservatory.
Although Marija’s musical gifts were undeniable, her
extraordinary beauty ultimately proved to be her ticket out
of Montenegro when she entered and won a modeling contest at
the age of 18. Marija’s victory lead to her first official
contract, and, within a year, she was walking down the
catwalk for the fashion house of Yuki Torii.
The following year proved to be an even greater success as
Marija spent the fall/winter season modeling for
internationally renown designers such as Alberta Ferretti,
Alexander McQueen, Andrew Gn, Dries van Noten, Evisu,
Lanvin, Laura Biagiotti, and Maurizio Pecoraro.
Marija built upon that success in 2004 when she appeared in
over 90 shows, an astounding number for any model --
especially one so new to the business. Highlights include
shows for blockbuster designers such as Bill Blass, Carolina
Herrera, Diane von Furstenberg, Emanuel Ungaro, Calvin
Klein, Christian Lacroix, Dolce & Gabbana, Donna Karan,
Emilio Pucci, and Louis Vuitton. She was also chosen to be
the face of the prestigious Yves Saint-Laurent Rive Gauche
ad campaign.
As incredible as Marija’s success may have been, she was for
the most part just a European entity throughout the early
part of her career. That changed in 2005 when she appeared
alongside Heidi Klum, Tyra Banks and Gisele Bundchen in The
Victoria's Secret Fashion Show -- the world’s only true
must-see TV program. Marija increased her profile even more
that year when she appeared alongside Naomi Campbell and
Adriana Lima in the 2005 Pirelli Calendar. Generally
regarded as the world’s most prestigious calendar, the “Cal”
as it is known, has been gracing garage walls with its racy
brand of glamor photography since 1964.
Marija rounded out the year with appearances in an
additional 100 shows, including modeling gigs for Anna Sui,
Chanel, Gucci, Hermes, John Galliano, Kenneth Cole, Michael
Kors, Vera Wang, and Versace, among others.
Marija appeared in over 50 runway shows in 2006, including
memorable appearances for designers such as Marc Jacobs,
Roberto Cavalli, Zac Posen, and Bottega Veneta. |
