Biography |
Born on March 25, 1962 in Marlborough, Massachusetts, Marcia
Cross showed a gift for theatre from a young age. She
attended the prestigious Juilliard School in New York and
began her high-profile acting career in 1984 when she
briefly appeared in the TV series The Edge of Night.
Cross had short runs in a slew of drama shows from '84 to
'91, including a strong role in the soap opera One Life to
Live. She finally broke into the spotlight in 1991 after
landing the role of Victoria Broyelard on Knots Landing.
After only a year on the show, however, Cross was able to
move on to Melrose Place, an incredibly popular primetime
drama. Fans considered her character, Kimberly Shaw, to be
the glue that tied the rest of the cast together during her
run on the show in 1992-1993 and 1994 through 1997. Despite
this success, though, Cross suffered through some hard
times, as long-time companion Richard Jordan passed away in
1993.
After Melrose Place, Cross went back to school and earned
her Master's degree in psychology from Los Angeles' Antioch
University. After her break, she returned to TV to most
notably star in Everwood in 2003-2004. Fans were amazed when
she left this drama series to star in a new ABC Sunday night
drama called Desperate Housewives, co-starring Teri Hatcher,
Nicollette Sheridan and Eva Longoria.
The decision to switch shows turned out to be incredibly
wise, as Desperate Housewives became a huge hit almost from
the first episode. Marcia Cross is now one of television's
most popular leading ladies. |
