Biography |
Born and raised in Australia, Kate Beahan’s rise to
Hollywood “it” girl has been slow and methodical. The early
years of her career were spent on the Australian stage,
where she appeared in a host of theatrical productions,
including a handful of plays by Shakespeare such as Romeo &
Juliet and Hamlet.
Her move to the world of film was a relatively smooth one,
as she landed a starring role in 1997 on an Aussie
television show called The Gift shortly after hitting the
audition circuit. Afterward, Kate took on several small
roles in obscure films, such as Strange Planet (1999), which
costarred a young up-and-coming actress named Naomi Watts,
and Chopper (2000) opposite Eric Bana.
Chopper, which follows the exploits of an infamous criminal
named Mark “Chopper” Read, announced Kate’s arrival as a
fresh new face and it wasn’t long before she was appearing
in some serious high-profile films, such as The Matrix
Revolutions (2003). Although she essentially became a
household name in her native Australia, most North Americans
had never heard of her before 2003 -- something that slowly
changed over the next few years.
With a memorable appearance in Flightplan (2005) opposite
Jodie Foster and Erika Christensen, Kate’s following
appearances in The Wicker Man (2006) opposite Nicolas Cage,
and The Return (2006), a Sarah Michelle Gellar supernatural
thriller, have ensured her a place among fellow famous
Aussies such as Heath Ledger and Nicole Kidman. |
