Joan Cusack is an Academy
Award-nominated American actress and comedian.
Cusack was born in New York City to an Irish American
Catholic family. Her father, Dick Cusack, as well as her
siblings Ann, Bill, John, and Susie have also been actors;
her father was also a documentary filmmaker, owned a film
production company and was a friend of activist Philip
Berrigan. Cusack's mother, Nancy, is a former mathematics
teacher and political activist.
She is married to attorney Dick Burke, with whom she has two
sons.
Cusack was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Working
Girl and In & Out. She starred with her brother John in the
movies Sixteen Candles, The Martian Child, High Fidelity,
Grosse Pointe Blank, and Say Anything. |

Wives (2004). When her father became ill, both she and her
brother, John Cusack, had to drop out of the film. Bette
Midler then got the role.
Shares her birthday (October 11) with Michelle Trachtenberg,
her on-screen daughter in Disney's Ice Princess (2005).
Cusack was the first regular cast member of "Saturday Night
Live" (1975) (1985-86 season) to be nominated for an Academy
Award. She was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her
work in Working Girl (1988).
One of her conditions for starring in the show "What About
Joan" (2001) was that it had to be produced in Chicago so
she would not have to leave her family.
In the mid-1980s, was a co-founder of the three woman improv
comedy troupe, "An Impulsive Thing", with Bonnie Hunt and
Holly Wortell. |
