Biography |
Jennifer Eve Garth was born on April 3, 1972, in Urbana,
Illinois. Her parents, John and Carolyn Garth, both had
three children from separate marriages before Jennie was
born. Jennie grew up on a horse ranch, along with her six
siblings, until her family moved to Phoenix, Arizona when
Jennie was 13.
During her short time in Arizona, Jennie took dance lessons
and dabbled in modeling before being discovered by a talent
scout who saw her win a talent competition at the age of 15.
In her junior year of high school, Jennie dropped out and
moved to California with her mom to pursue acting.
During her stay in California, Jennie started taking acting
classes and went to auditions. One of her auditions was for
the role of Kelly Kapowski on Saved by the Bell, but that
job went to Tiffani Thiessen, who soon became a good friend
of Jennie's.
After about four months in Los Angeles, she landed a part on
the short-lived NBC series A Brand New Life (1989), which
incidentally enough, was about a woman with three kids who
marries a man with three kids, both from former marriages.
Within a year of taking on her first acting role, Jennie was
cast as Kelly Taylor for the FOX series Beverly Hills,
90210. The show gave Jennie instant exposure as a rich high
school student in Beverly Hills. Her costars on the show,
like Luke Perry, Jason Priestley and Shannen Doherty, also
became household names.
During her 10 years of work on Beverly Hills, 90210, Jennie
also took acting roles in made-for-television movies like
Star (1993), Lies of the Heart: The Story of Laurie Kellogg
(1994) and Without Consent (1994). But the television movies
could not rival the exposure she achieved on 90210.
Toward the middle of her work on Beverly Hills, 90210,
Jennie married Daniel B. Clark. As she continued her work on
the popular primetime FOX series, the couple divorced after
two years, in 1996. Not long after her divorce, Jennie began
to date fellow actor Peter Facinelli (Fastlane).
The new couple welcomed a daughter, Luca Bella, into the
world in June of 1997. With a newborn and boyfriend, Jennie
continued her work on 90210 and branched out into producing
made-for-TV movies. She began making public service
announcements in 1999 as a result of her struggle with
migraine headaches.
When the FOX series ended its 10-year run in 2000, Jennie
took a break from work. On January 20, 2001, Jennie and
Peter were married on her ranch in Santa Barbara,
California. The following December, the couple welcomed
their second daughter, Lola Ray, into the family.
With her family in order, Jennie went back into television,
starring in the WB series What I Like About You (2002), with
Amanda Bynes.
In 2005, Jennie accepted a spokesperson position for the
Angel Soft Angels in Action Program. The campaign serves to
honor children and teenagers who have performed exemplary
acts of community service. As for acting, Jennie is still
starring in What I Like About You. This is her first comedy
series and her longest-running gig, second to her role as
Kelly on 90210.
Unlike some celebrities who cut short of academics, Jennie
received her high school diploma and is fluent in Italian.
She and Peter remain married and continue to raise their two
daughters. When she is not hard at work, Jennie enjoys
spending time with the family at her ranch, horseback riding
and gardening. |
