Biography |
Gia Farrell was born on February 9, 1989 in Suffern, New
York. As such, Gia is no stranger to the New York City
spotlight, and she has welcomed it almost naturally, as she
has been singing since before she could even talk. She
started taking voice lessons when she was 8 and she has been
passionate about it ever since.
Gia’s inspiration to sing came from her idols, Mariah Carey,
Whitney Houston and Christina Aguilera. She often tried to
imitate the bold voices of those legendary divas. Her
admiration for the great singers and her love for music led
Gia to build a resume that, by the time she was 13, most 25
year olds don’t possess. At just 13, Gia Farrell had already
been on the Las Vegas version of Ed McMahon’s Next Big Star,
won on Star Search, and had already been a show-stopper on
It's Showtime at The Apollo, winning performer of the year.
Gia Farrell is no one-trick pony. In her early teens, she
studied both acting and singing. Her acting talents won her
roles in on the stage productions of Guys and Dolls and Damn
Yankees. But her music career was always first, and getting
the opportunity to open for Fat Joe in upstate New York was
a career-defining moment for the young Gia Farrell. She sang
Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love” and Mariah Carey’s “Love Takes
Time” almost as well as the two superstars sing the songs
themselves, and Gia absolutely blew the crowd away with her
performance.
Atlantic Records saw promise in the charming, young talent
when she was only 17 years old. When she signed, she wasted
no time getting started on her album. As a rookie in the
music industry, she worked with some of the most veteran of
names in the business, including Ne-Yo, Beyonce and Jessica
Simpson. Others, such as Hilary Duff, Andrea Martin, KNS and
DEEKAY also contributed to the production of Gia Farrell’s
self-titled album.
However, Gia’s album is ultimately her body of work.
Recording in both New York City and Los Angeles, Gia managed
all of that traveling well enough to have time to contribute
to both songwriting and the recording process, which is why
her album is very meaningful to her.
While potential is already something that Gia Farrell has
realized in her short life, she has a long way to go before
she will call herself accomplished. But with an album
finally released, Gia is looking to take some time for her
other passion, acting. “That’s something I love but haven’t
been able to do very much while making the record,” says
Gia. “What I’m really excited about is that now I get to go
and sing the songs on my album.” Ban or bust, Gia Farrell's
album, is still an example of how she has surpassed the
title of “someone with potential” into someone who has put
forth the effort to succeed. |
