Biography |
Born on June 24, 1975, in Brooklyn, New York, Carla Gallo
decided that her passion for theater was strong enough to
pursue as a career. She attended the LaGuardia School of
Performing Arts in order to hone her skills, and moved on to
Cornell University. She had doubts about her future in
acting, however, and tried out a few professional careers
before finally returning to school and graduating with a
degree in theater arts.
Spanking the Monkey, a 1994 indie comedy/drama, marked
Gallo's arrival as an actress. She made quite the
impression, receiving an Independent Spirit Award nomination
for her debut. Despite the good start, it took five years
for Gallo to get another solid role. In 1999, she had a
small part in The 24 Hour Woman, but it was her portrayal of
a college freshman two years later that would mark her big
breakthrough.
In Undeclared -- a FOX series that lasted two seasons (2001
and 2002) -- Gallo basically played herself, bringing her
college experience to the small screen in 30-minute
segments. Following the cancellation of the comedy series,
Gallo garnered a role in HBO's Carnivāle, moved on to the
R-rated Sexual Life, and took on a comedic role in The 40
Year Old Virgin.
These recent projects prove that Gallo is on her way up,
rebounding after the abrupt end of Undeclared. |
