Biography |
Candice Pillay, born on June 10, 1981, in a small town
called Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, is an American singer
and model.
From a young age, Pillay had a love for the spotlight, the
stage and performing. Her East Indian heritage combined with
a love for R&B and Soul music makes for her remarkable sound
and style. She grew up in a musical family, and began
singing in her church at the age of 5.
Her father, being one of her most early influences, taught
her to play acoustic guitar at the age of 13. She performed
at school concerts and plays. She started playing piano and
writing her own compositions by age 15.
Pillay was recognized by those in her community and her
music took off as she performed at concerts and benefits,
with her live full piece band.
Pillay left her home in South Africa and moved to the States
to further her career. She lived in New York and recorded
and performed her music there, playing at various clubs and
parties. She then moved to Los Angeles where she continues
her music career with recording, performance and radio work.
Candice has also branched out into a part-time modeling
career in, fashion-runway, print and spokes-model work.
Pillay has been influenced by artists such as; Aretha
Franklin, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Lauryn Hill, Diana
Ross, Brian McKnight and Alicia keys. She has a love for hip
hop music and her style combines both Indian influences with
a R&B/Hip Hop flavor. She is currently working on her demo. |
