Biography |
When your father is Academy Award winner Ron Howard and your
godfather is the Fonz, it's a good bet that you're going to
end up in showbiz as well. That's been precisely the case
for fiery redhead Bryce Dallas Howard. The Dallas-born
beauty studied at the Tisch School of the Arts and the
Stella Adler Conservatory before embarking on a career in
theater.
Over the years, she made many small, often uncredited
appearances in films directed by her father, such as
Parenthood (1989), Apollo 13 (1995) and How the Grinch Stole
Christmas (2000). Her big break didn't come from her father,
though; rather, it happened when she was discovered by film
director M. Night Shyamalan in a stage production of
Shakespeare's As You Like It.
Impressed by her acting chops, Shyamalan cast her in his
spooky thriller The Village (2004). The film grossed over
$230 million worldwide, but more importantly, it convinced
critics that Bryce had talent to back up her impressive
pedigree.
Since then, Bryce has starred in the Lars von Trier drama
Manderlay, and will be appearing in the upcoming films As
You Like It and Mary Queen of Scots. She'll also collaborate
with Shyamalan once again in the fantasy-thriller Lady in
the Water. |
