Biography |
Brittany Anne Murphy was born on November 10, 1977 (that's
right guys, she's a Scorpio; they know how to have fun), in
Atlanta, Georgia.
Brittany's parents separated and the young aspiring actress
was forced to move to New Jersey, where people don't have
much fun (just see any Todd Solondz or Kevin Smith film).
There, she discovered regional theater and appeared in
productions of Les Miserables and Really Rosie, which were
lauded by the school papers.
As a preteen, she hired a manager and later moved to
Burbank, California, where her career would eventually take
off.
Brittany's first foray out of the school theater world was
in commercials, including one for Skittles. In 1991, she
landed a role on one of the early FOX network's parade of
disposable series, Drexell's Class, with soon-to-be American
Pie star, Jason Biggs.
After gaining experience in a slew of short-run TV shows,
she finally landed her big break as Tai Fraiser in the 1995
sleeper hit, Clueless, with Alicia Silverstone and Stacey
Dash. From there, she ran through various lesser-known
films, such as Freeway (1996), Drive (1997), Bongwater
(1997), Phoenix (1998), and Falling Sky (1998), and she was
off the blockbuster scene for several years.
In 1999, Brittany struck gold in films of the estrogen
variety, such as Drop Dead Gorgeous with Denise Richards and
Girl, Interrupted with Winona Ryder. Brittany added more
chick flicks to her resume with 2001's Riding in Cars with
Boys, starring Drew Barrymore, Sidewalks of New York with
Heather Graham, and Summer Catch, starring Jessica Biel.
After the 2001 thriller Don't Say a Word (who can forget
Murphy's eerie chant, "I'll never tell..."?), Brittany
starred as Eminem's love interest in 2002's 8 Mile. In 2003,
Brittany starred in the romantic comedy Just Married (which
co-starred former boyfriend Ashton Kutcher) and the syrupy
flick Uptown Girls. After 2004's Little Black Book, Brittany
turned up the sex appeal in 2005's Sin City.
After closing off 2005 with roles in Neverwas and Boyfriend
in a Box, Brittany Murphy will appear in 2006's The
Groomsmen and Love and Other Disasters. She will also lend
her voice to the animated flick Happy Feet; after years of
lending her voice to King of the Hill's Luanne, Murphy
surely has the voice work experience.
Brittany has made headlines thanks to her engagement to
talent manager Jeff Kwatinetz. For now, she is satisfied
with making the U.S. troops in Iraq happy; she has visited
them in the Middle East and only posed for Maxim on the
condition that the magazine send 40,000 copies (with a
special message) to the troops. |

filmakers had to reshoot the scene in which Winona Ryder
