Biography |
Amel Larrieux has always had a passion for creativity. The
daughter of a respected dance critic, she spent much of her
youth dancing, painting and writing poems. It wasn’t until
she met singer Bryce Wilson, however, and formed the R&B duo
Groove Theory that she realized she could turn her passion
into a profession. Thanks to their unique blending of
talent, the pair scored their first record deal a mere two
months after recording a demo. “It was such a blessing,”
Amel says of the quick turnaround. “I know there are so many
people out there that are trying to get deals.”
Amel’s good luck kept on rolling when Groove Theory’s
self-titled debut album went gold, thanks to the hits "Tell
Me," "Keep Tryin'" and "Baby Luv." Amel and Bryce stayed
together for four more hit-filled years, before she chose to
pursue a solo career in 1999. Since then, Amel has earned a
mountain of critical praise for her albums Infinite
Possibilities (2000), Bravebird (2004) and Morning (2006).
In fact, Vibe magazine has gushed: "With talent like
Larrieux’s, anything is possible."
Amel has also recently extended her considerable talents to
the world of acting. In addition to appearing on an episode
of New York Undercover, she has also lent her voice to
Matatkara, an online animated series about the adventures of
an Egyptian princess. "It is very futuristic, kinetic and a
total sci-fi experience," she says. |
